Guided Tour through the BMW production plant in Dingolfing

Bodies made by "Efficient Lightweight" technology are produced at the BMW plant in Dingolfing, Lower Bavaria. BMW invited all conference attendees to an exclusive look behind the scenes to afford them an opportunity to discuss the key issues of hybrid body construction.

BMW Programm Committee

With the BMW 7 Series, carbon fibre has now made it into the large-scale production of luxury vehicle car bodies by the hybrid construction method. The implications for process engineering and what the future holds in terms of challenges and opportunities for manufacturers of luxury sedans are among the topics we would like to discuss with you during Insight Edition @ BMW. We look forward to welcoming you at the Dingolfing plant!

Technical framework

For its new premium-range 7 Series, BMW is banking on a hybrid construction of steel, aluminium, magnesium and carbon fibre. In particular, car-body developers are using the last of these for the first time in the bodyshell structure of a mass-production vehicle. There it will pass through all stages, including painting. The new 7 Series will be up to 130 kg lighter than its predecessor. This conference will focus on how hybrid construction can benefit the car body and on the process engineering challenges involved.
