Tutorial: Sheet Metal Forming

Sheet Metal Forming

24 September 2018 | 10.00h - 18.00h

Only English

Before the start of the main conference, the concise one-day tutorial on Sheet Metal Forming offers newcomers to the field the opportunity to learn about or refresh the relevant technological fundamentals of sheet metal forming processes in the automotive industry.

In this way, participants wishing to review these fundamentals may prepare themselves for the high-level technical presentations of the main event.

The tutorial addresses:

  • metallurgic effects in forming operations, formability of different metal materials
  • requirements and challenges in the production of panel-based car body parts
  • the car body part development process, from part design via method and process planning to tool construction and production, tryout processes and series production
  • modern press plant and press technology
  • forming simulation and process optimization
  • hot-forming processes

Specific emphasis will be placed on topics of particular interest to the tutorial participants.

Dr. Wirtsch.-Ing. Michael Rupp was trained as a tool-maker and subsequently studied industrial engineering with a focus on mechanical engineering at the University of Darmstadt, obtaining his doctorate from the Institute for Production Technology and Forming Machines. He then joined Adam Opel AG in Rüsselsheim, where he held various managing positions in, e.g. Material Quality and Technical Application, Tool Making and Model Assembly, Central Press Plant Planning as well as Simulations and Method Planning, today as Director Manufacturing Engineering Press for Opel/Vauxhall. As a renowned expert in production and forming technology, he is also active as a lecturer on Forming Technology at the Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen - University of Applied Sciences in Friedberg.
